Self-hosted alternatives to Disqus

Disqus is a hosted comment system that publishers embed on their sites, with moderation, voting, analytics and optional native ads. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Disqus describes on its own site.

Disqus alternative for static sites and blogs: threaded comments on one Worker with D1, KV and Turnstile

What a Disqus user would miss
Native ads and revenue reports and the shared Disqus identity across sites; install runs from a local terminal with Node.js 24 or later and there is no deploy button.
What it adds
Apache-2.0, keeps comments and users in your own D1 database, and states it has no analytics, tracking pixels, advertising or Gravatar and sets one strictly necessary cookie.
  • Yes Embeddable comment widget. Two lines of HTML load embed.js from your Worker, and the widget renders in a Shadow DOM.
  • Yes Threaded replies and sorting. Nested replies and newest, oldest or top sorting that readers can switch.
  • Yes Guest and social sign-in. OAuth sign-in with GitHub, Google, Facebook, X and Discord, plus anonymous posting gated by Turnstile and rate limits.
  • Yes Moderation queue and spam filtering. Moderation queue, Turnstile, rate limiting, honeypot, optional heuristics and an optional Akismet or Workers AI classifier.
  • Yes Voting and reactions. Reactions with a choice of 12 emoji, comment upvotes and downvotes, and an optional page vote bar.
  • Yes Email notifications and digests. Reply notifications by email with double opt-in and one-click unsubscribe; needs a Resend key.
  • Yes Comment import and export. Imports Disqus exports (.xml.gz) in the admin or by script, and admins export all data as JSON or comments as CSV.
  • Partly Basic analytics. Admin dashboard shows counts and a 30-day comment volume chart, with optional Analytics Engine events; no engagement or revenue reports.
