Self-hosted alternatives to Firebase

Firebase is Google's platform of backend services and client SDKs for building and running web and mobile apps. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Firebase describes on its own site.

Open-source Firebase alternative with auth, a realtime database, file storage and remote config on Cloudflare

What a Firebase user would miss
Push messaging, crash reporting and app analytics, and the README documents a JavaScript and HTTP client rather than native mobile SDKs.
What it adds
Apache-2.0 and runs in your own Cloudflare account, with each project's data in its own Durable Objects, regional read replicas and 30-day database rollback, per the README.
  • Yes User authentication. Better Auth per project with email and password, Google and GitHub sign-in, anonymous users, roles and project-signed JWTs.
  • Yes Realtime document database. Schemaless JSON collections with live queries over one WebSocket per client, plus typed SQL tables.
  • Yes File storage. R2 buckets with public, authenticated and owner-only access, signed URLs and multipart uploads; needs an R2 bucket and a BUCKET binding.
  • Partly Web hosting. The hosting agent serves static sites and Workers at app subdomains with deploys from the CLI or git push, but self-hosting it needs Workers for Platforms, a paid add-on.
  • Partly Serverless functions. The hosting agent can deploy backend function Workers on Workers for Platforms; no event-triggered functions found in the source.
  • Yes Remote config and feature flags. Remote Config targets values by country, role, version or rollout percentage.
  • No Push messaging. No messaging agent or push code in the repository.
  • No Crash reporting and analytics. Only auth-event charts through Analytics Engine and database event metrics for the project itself.
