Self-hosted alternatives to Supabase

Supabase is a hosted backend platform built around a Postgres database, with authentication, storage, realtime, edge functions and vector search. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Supabase describes on its own site.

Open-source Firebase alternative with auth, a realtime database, file storage and remote config on Cloudflare

What a Supabase user would miss
Postgres, joins across tables, SQL row-level security policies and vector search.
What it adds
Apache-2.0 and runs in your own Cloudflare account, with an SQL editor in the console and 30-day database rollback, per the README.
  • Partly Postgres database with full SQL. Typed SQL tables on SQLite in Durable Objects with filters, aggregates, subqueries and CTEs; not Postgres, no DDL, and no cross-table joins except read-only views that lag by about 3 seconds.
  • Partly Authentication with row-level security. Better Auth with roles and JWTs plus per-collection and per-table access modes (public, authenticated, owner, closed); no SQL row-level policies.
  • Yes Automatic REST data APIs. Every project serves REST routes and an OpenAPI document at /api/projects/<id>/openapi.json.
  • Yes Realtime data sync. Subscribe on any collection or table query, multiplexed over one WebSocket per client.
  • Yes File storage. R2 buckets with access modes, signed URLs and multipart uploads.
  • Partly Edge functions. The hosting agent deploys Workers on Workers for Platforms; no database or auth triggers found.
  • No Vector embeddings. No vector or embedding code found in the repository.
