Self-hosted alternatives to ThingSpeak

ThingSpeak is a MathWorks IoT analytics service that collects sensor data in channels, charts it and analyzes it with MATLAB. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features ThingSpeak describes on its own site.

Self-hosted IoT platform for device telemetry, realtime dashboards and automations in your own Cloudflare account

What a ThingSpeak user would miss
MQTT, MATLAB analysis and public data channels.
What it adds
MIT licensed and single-tenant, with data in the owner's Cloudflare account, a read API, embeddable widgets and an MCP server that is off by default; it also sends anonymous usage stats to telemetry.nodrix.live.
  • Partly Data collection in channels through REST and MQTT APIs. Devices POST JSON over HTTPS or open a WebSocket and variables appear on first sight; no MQTT broker.
  • Partly Private and public channels. Projects are private and any dashboard can be shared read-only by public link; no public data channels.
  • Yes Live charts and visualizations. Drag-and-drop dashboards with value, gauge, chart, map, toggle, slider, color, percent and push widgets, updating live over WebSockets.
  • No Analysis with MATLAB. No analysis environment; automations can run code snippets.
  • Yes Alerts and automated reactions to data. Automations fire on variable changes and events, with webhook, email and chat actions.
  • Yes TimeControl for scheduled actions. Schedule and sunrise or sunset triggers run automations on time.
  • Partly Integrations with apps and services. Slack, Discord, Telegram, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, Twilio, email and generic HTTP.
  • Partly Support for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP8266 and ESP32 hardware. An Arduino library for ESP32 and ESP8266 and plain HTTPS from any board; no Raspberry Pi library found.
