Self-hosted alternatives to Transistor

Transistor is a hosted podcast hosting service for audio and video shows, with distribution to listening apps, analytics, private podcasts and a website for each show. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Transistor describes on its own site.

Self-hosted CMS that publishes podcasts, posts, photos and links as a website, RSS feed and JSON Feed on Cloudflare

Who it suits
Podcasters who run one show, publish through an RSS feed and want their own website and media storage, and who handle directory submissions and statistics through other services.
What a Transistor user would miss
It has no built-in analytics, embeddable player, private podcasts or automatic transcripts, and it hosts one show per install with a single administrator login.
What it adds
The same items appear as a podcast feed, a JSON Feed and a themeable website, one install can also hold posts, photos and links, and an API, signed webhooks and a CLI are included.
  • Yes Audio and video podcast hosting with an RSS feed. Audio and video uploaded to R2 and served as RSS enclosures, with iTunes tags such as season, episode and explicit.
  • Partly Multiple shows on one account. One channel per install; a second show needs a second site created with the same CLI.
  • Partly Submission to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube and other apps. Any podcast app can read the feed and Subscribe methods can list Apple Podcasts or other links, but the feed URL is submitted by hand.
  • No Private podcasts for teams and communities. The website and feeds are public; no members-only feed found.
  • Yes Automatic website for each show. A themeable public website with item pages, search, standalone pages and versioned themes.
  • No Embeddable podcast player. Item pages use the browser's audio and video player; no embed code found.
  • Partly Download analytics by episode and app. OP3 or Podtrac tracking URLs can prefix media links; no built-in statistics.
  • Partly Automatic transcripts. Transcript and chapter fields publish podcast:transcript and podcast:chapters in the feed; no automatic transcription.
