Self-hosted alternatives to Eraser

Eraser is a hosted diagramming tool for engineers that generates architecture, sequence and other diagrams from text, code or files with AI and keeps them in docs. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Eraser describes on its own site.

  • DrawCMS editor with the architecture request flow sample: User, Load Balancer, API and Database, animation on and the presentation steps panel open

Editor for animated architecture, sequence and BPMN diagrams that you or an AI agent build, narrate step by step and export as GIF

Who it suits
Engineers who already work with coding agents and want animated architecture diagrams on their own infrastructure.
What a Eraser user would miss
There is no text syntax for diagrams, no docs, no automatic sync from a codebase and no integrations; sharing needs the paid DrawCMS Cloud.
What it adds
AGPL-3.0 and runs in your own Cloudflare account. Diagrams animate: motion presets on nodes and connectors and narrated presentation steps, exported as an animated GIF.
  • Yes AI diagram generation from text, code or files. The agent skill builds a diagram from a description or a repository; WebMCP lets an agent build it on the live canvas.
  • Partly Diagram-as-code. Diagrams are .drawcms files an agent writes and validates, not a hand-written text syntax.
  • Yes Cloud architecture, sequence, ERD and flowchart diagrams. All four are among the 17 diagram types.
  • Partly Diagrams that update from a codebase. The agent skill can regenerate a diagram from a repository on request; nothing syncs automatically.
  • No Design docs next to the diagrams. Diagrams only; presentation steps carry short narration.
  • Partly MCP server and agent support. A WebMCP toolset in the browser and an agent skill for Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor and OpenCode; no remote MCP server.
  • No Integrations with Confluence, Notion, VS Code and GitHub. No integrations.
