Self-hosted alternatives to Front

Front is a hosted customer operations platform that gives teams a shared inbox across email, chat, SMS and WhatsApp. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Front describes on its own site.

Email helpdesk for support teams of one to fifteen people who have outgrown group email

What a Front user would miss
It handles email only, has no round-robin or skill-based routing and no autonomous AI agents, is built for teams of one to fifteen, and uses a source-available license.
What it adds
Tickets and attachments stay in your own D1 database and R2 bucket, with signed webhooks, scoped API keys and a read-only MCP server.
  • Yes Shared inbox for team email. Three-pane shared inbox with tickets, assignment, status, priority, tags and full-text search.
  • Partly Internal comments on conversations. Internal notes in the ticket thread, @mentions not listed.
  • Partly Assignment and routing. Manual assignment and rules that assign a named agent, no round-robin or skill-based routing found.
  • Partly Automation rules and tagging. Rules set priority, status, assignee and tag on new tickets and inbound mail, no time-based steps.
  • No Channels beyond email such as chat, SMS and WhatsApp. Email only.
  • Partly AI agents that reply to customers. Opt-in AI summaries, reply drafts, classification and translation, no autonomous agents.
  • Yes Knowledge base. Public help center built from knowledge-base articles.
  • Yes Customer history across conversations. Customer records with ticket history, company, notes and merge.
