Self-hosted alternatives to Tumblr

Tumblr is a hosted blogging platform and social network where people post text, photos, quotes, links, audio and video, follow other blogs and reblog posts. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features Tumblr describes on its own site.

Tumblr-style microblog for one author, with notes, links, quotes, threads and two-way sync to a Hugo repo on GitHub

What a Tumblr user would miss
It has no reblogs, following, likes, scheduled posts, messaging or built-in comments, so it replaces the blog and not the network.
What it adds
It runs on one Worker with D1 and R2 in your own Cloudflare account, syncs every edit to a GitHub repository as Markdown that also builds as a Hugo site, and adds threads, collections, ratings, an API and an MCP server.
  • Yes Posts in several formats such as text, photos, quotes, links, audio and video. Native Note, Link and Quote formats plus image, video, audio and document attachments; no chat or poll formats.
  • No Reblogging other people's posts. No reblog feature; the docs say there are no followers, likes or algorithmic feed.
  • No Following blogs and a dashboard feed. No following or dashboard; readers use the RSS and Atom feeds.
  • Partly Likes, tags and search. Search, an archive page and Collections; no likes or tags found in the docs.
  • Partly Queue, scheduled posts and drafts. Drafts with preview exist, but scheduling is not supported and future dates are rejected.
  • Partly Custom themes with HTML and CSS. Built-in color and font themes and custom CSS; no HTML template editor found.
  • Yes Custom domains. Custom domains on Cloudflare Workers, hosted Jant and Docker setups.
  • No Messaging and communities. No messaging or communities, and the FAQ says there are no built-in comments.
