Jant
Tumblr-style microblog for one author, with notes, links, quotes, threads and two-way sync to a Hugo repo on GitHub
Jant Latest timeline with a pinned post, a collapsed thread, a quote and a four-star link card
Jant is blogging software that sits between a traditional blog and social media: titles are optional and publishing is a single action. Each post is hidden from the Latest timeline, shown on Latest, or marked Featured, and only Featured posts reach /feed and RSS.
Notes, Links and Quotes are separate native formats rather than variants of one article template, and any post can continue as a Thread later. Collections group posts by topic. Attachments cover images, video, audio, Markdown files, documents and code snippets, and ratings cover books, films, podcasts and articles. The site also has search, an archive page, built-in themes and custom CSS. GitHub Sync commits each edit as Markdown to your own repository and pulls edits made on GitHub back into the site. That repository is a complete Hugo site with theme and config, so it doubles as a backup and a static-hosting fallback. An API and an MCP server cover automated publishing and imports. On Cloudflare, Jant runs as one Worker with static assets, a D1 database and an R2 bucket for media. The deploy form generates AUTH_SECRET, and the jant deploy script applies D1 migrations before uploading the Worker. A Docker image and the hosted service at jant.me run the same AGPL-licensed code.
Built for: Individual writers and developers who want a lightweight personal blog with social-style posting, on their own domain and Cloudflare account
What you can use it for
- Run a personal microblog on your own domain instead of a social network
- Keep a link log and short notes, sending only featured posts to RSS
- Keep a reading log with ratings for books, films and podcasts
- Keep a blog archive as Markdown in a GitHub repo that builds with Hugo
Deploy
One-click
Branch main
Deploys the official jant-starter repository, which installs the @jant/core package.
The docs put the button deploy at about five minutes, with the custom domain and the R2 public domain added afterwards in the Cloudflare dashboard.

Good to know
Jant is pre-1.0, and the README warns of rough edges, breaking changes and docs that keep moving. R2 must be enabled on the account before deploying, or the deploy fails. Sessions break when the domain changes, so bind the custom domain before creating the admin account. Without R2_PUBLIC_URL on a public R2 domain, the Worker proxies every media request and spends its request quota. Responsive image sizes need Image Transformations enabled on the zone. GitHub Sync leaves media out of the repository, so media needs a separate backup. The starter repository has no license file of its own; the code it installs is AGPL-3.0.
Cost on Cloudflare
Likely fits the free plan
The README says the Cloudflare option usually stays within the free tier. It uses one Worker, a D1 database and an R2 bucket; R2's free allowance of 10 GB-month of storage, 1 million Class A and 10 million Class B operations a month is shared across the account. Image Transformations, if turned on, include 5,000 transformations a month at no charge.
The estimate is based on Cloudflare’s documented limits and the app’s configuration. What you pay depends on your usage and plan.
