Self-hosted alternatives to WordPress

WordPress is open source publishing software for building websites and blogs, extended with themes and plugins. One listed app does its main job and runs in your own Cloudflare account.

Each answer comes from the app’s README and source code, compared with the features WordPress describes on its own site.

Open-source Astro CMS from Cloudflare for blogs and marketing sites, with a WordPress-style admin and sandboxed plugins

What a WordPress user would miss
PHP plugins and themes and the WordPress.org directories; themes are Astro templates, and sandboxed plugins need the Worker Loader binding, which the official blog template leaves commented out.
What it adds
MIT licensed, with a WordPress importer for WXR exports, the REST API and WordPress.com, passkey-first sign-in, a built-in MCP server, and a Node.js option with SQLite as well as Cloudflare D1 and R2.
  • Yes Posts and pages in a visual editor. TipTap rich text editor with Portable Text storage for posts, pages and custom content types.
  • Yes Drafts, scheduled publishing and revisions. README lists revisions, drafts and scheduled publishing.
  • Yes Media library. Media library with drag and drop uploads, folders and a picker in content fields.
  • Partly Themes. Themes are Astro starter templates (blog, marketing, portfolio) copied into the project; the docs say there is no runtime theme package.
  • Yes Plugins. DefinePlugin API with hooks, settings, admin pages and custom blocks; plugins can run in sandboxed Worker isolates.
  • Yes User roles. Administrator, Editor, Author and Contributor roles.
  • Yes Built-in comments. Comments can be enabled per collection with moderation and automatic closing.
  • Yes Categories, tags and custom content types. Taxonomies plus a schema builder for custom content types.
