CloudDrop
Encrypted peer-to-peer file sharing between browsers, with room codes and a Worker relay when direct links fail
CloudDrop waiting for devices in room 2EEB42, with a room code field and Connected status in the header
CloudDrop sends files and messages straight between devices over WebRTC, encrypted with AES-256-GCM after an ECDH key exchange. When a direct connection fails, the Durable Object that handles room signaling relays the data instead. It installs as a PWA and ships in nine languages.
Open CloudDrop on two devices to send files between them. Peers on the same network can share right away; a room code connects devices on different networks. Files, text and images travel over WebRTC data channels. The key exchange uses ECDH on the P-256 curve, and the README says the server never sees file contents or encryption keys. If no direct connection is up within about five seconds, CloudDrop relays the data through its Durable Object and keeps trying to restore peer-to-peer in the background, with an indicator showing which mode is active. Password-protected rooms add a second layer of encryption with PBKDF2 key derivation. Devices can be marked as trusted so their transfers are accepted automatically. The interface is mobile-friendly, with light, dark and system themes. Besides English, it is translated into simplified and traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German and Arabic. The deployment is one Worker that serves the vanilla JavaScript frontend from Workers Static Assets, plus one SQLite-backed Durable Object class that manages WebSocket rooms for signaling and relay. For restrictive networks you can add Cloudflare Realtime TURN by setting the TURN_KEY_ID and TURN_KEY_API_TOKEN secrets; without them CloudDrop uses public STUN servers.
Built for: Individuals and small teams who want to move files between devices from the browser without uploading them to cloud storage
What you can use it for
- Move files between a laptop and a phone on the same network
- Send a file to a colleague on another network with a room code
- Pass short encrypted text or images between your own devices
- Transfer files on networks that block direct peer-to-peer connections

Optional: add TURN_KEY_ID and TURN_KEY_API_TOKEN with npx wrangler secret put to use Cloudflare TURN.
git clone https://github.com/DeH40/cloudDrop.git cd cloudDrop npm install npx wrangler login npm run deploy
The Deploy button needs no secrets, and the app works right after deploying.
What it needs to run
- Durable ObjectsRoom
Good to know
Both devices must be online at the same time; there is no stored download link. Without TURN credentials, peers behind strict NAT rely on the relay.
Cost on Cloudflare
Likely fits the free plan
Signaling and relay run on a SQLite-backed Durable Object class, which Workers Free supports with 100,000 Durable Object requests per day. Incoming WebSocket messages count at a 20:1 ratio, so heavy relay use draws that allowance down faster. The optional Realtime TURN service includes 1,000 GB of free egress per month.
The estimate is based on Cloudflare’s documented limits and the app’s configuration. What you pay depends on your usage and plan.
